South Australian designer Paul Vasileff will launch Paolo Sebastian Autumn/Winter 2018-19 couture collection The Nutcracker in Paris next week.
For the third consecutive year Paolo Sebastian will unveil 26 unique couture pieces at Artcurial on des Champs-Élysées to coincide with Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.
The showcase is supported by the Adelaide Fashion Festival presented by Mercedes-Benz Adelaide & Unley.
The new collection, The Nutcracker, is inspired by the works of Russian composer Tchaikovsky and brings to life the iconic scores, from Kingdom of the Dolls to the Land of the Flowers and all realms in between. These stories are depicted through delicate embroideries of snowflakes, floral motifs and crystal embellishments on opulent wool cashmere, French tulle and silk chiffons.
Paolo Sebastian is a world-renowned couture house with more than half of all garment sales in the 2017-18 financial year being to international clients. The most popular market is the Middle East – attracting 32 per cent of all Paolo Sebastian sales – and designer Vasileff has attended Dubai for client fittings twice in the past 12 months.
Adelaide Fashion Festival creative director Chris Kontos – who will be in Paris assisting with the presentation – said the brand was an industry leader for the state and for Australia.
“It’s extraordinary that the team at Paolo Sebastian – led by the visionary Paul Vasileff – has built the brand upon timeless elegance and refined details that resonate around the world,” Kontos said.
“Paolo Sebastian is incredibly popular with overseas clients and celebrities including Katy Perry and Rebel Wilson, which is amazing for the brand and its staff, and for South Australian small businesses.
“It demonstrates that commitment and innovation, as well as respect for traditional techniques and stories, can be incredibly powerful and drive success for our creative industries here in Adelaide.”
About 10 interstate and overseas clients visit the Adelaide atelier of Paolo Sebastian each month, and the brand continues to be stocked in Singapore, China and Qatar, via Moda Operandi in London and Harvey Nichols in Qatar.
The Nutcracker collection by Paolo Sebastian will make its Australian debut at the Adelaide Fashion Festival in October. Vasileff said this collection was a slight departure from the expected.
“This season we’ve moved away slightly from our traditional soft look and focused on incorporating more structural and tailored pieces to compliment the powerful scores and hero the incredible craftsmanship we have in the Paolo Sebastian atelier,” he said.
“It’s incredibly humbling to have people from all around the world wanting to work with my team and I.”
